Where do the dead live?
The old story I grew up with isn’t nourishing - that the dead are in your heart or in your memories or somewhere ethereal and abstract like a city in the clouds. We were told that they are dead and gone, but also that they look over you, in a hallmark card cherub kind of way. We need better stories than that.
It seems like places and objects that the dead loved when living hold echoes of them, which are the link to them now. There are patterns that we imprint by way of us being somewhere, touching things, speaking out scent into the air, so that when we are dead those patterns are still there.
